Garvagh Forest School is up and running.  We have had a ball with St Columba’s & Gorran PS on Wednesday and Carhill, St Patrick’s & St Joseph’s, & Garvagh PS on Thursday hiding treasure and making maps out of twigs, leaves etc so the others could find the treasure ….  learning outside has been so much fun can’t wait for next week.  Check out our classroom…..

Flower Arranging Workshop with James Burnside

James Burnside is back on Saturday 4th June 2016 from
10am to 4.00pm for another fantastic Flower Arranging Workshop in Garvagh Community Building.

Cost £20 excl materials

In this one day workshop James will cover a variety of techniques and styles including:
James is an established traditional and contemporary floral designer, and is well known for his expertise in this creative art form. Having taught classes for many years, you will find James’ combination of knowledge, skills, experience and enthusiasm for his subject enlightening. You will be required to bring your own materials. Developments Trust NI

Very interesting event being held in Garvagh Community Building with great relevance to our ambitions for Garvagh Forest School and the wider former Garvagh High School Site.

Development Trusts NI, is pleased to invite interested parties to a seminar and public discussion on community owned, community managed woodlands.The seminar seeks to facilitate an opportunity for those with an interest in land reform, local regeneration and development to come together and share experiences, challenges and opportunities and consider ways in which mutual interests can be advanced.

This seminar will look at community ownership and management of land and woodlands in Scotland with a keynote contribution from Jon Hollingdale, CEO of the Communtiy Woodlands Association Scotland. Jon will reflect on the factors that have facilitated and driven forward community ownership in Scotland and the lessons learned for communities in NI.

The seminar will also hear from Nial O’Kane who will present on the work of Carntogher Community Association who have been to the fore in rural regeneration and land ownership in NI. Lauri McCusker (CEO Fermanagh Trust & DTNI Director) will consider the wider implications for rural communties overlooked as strategic rural regeneration partners and the new social enterprises that might be established through more and better community ownership.

The Men From The Blackhill

On Saturday 27th February 2016 at 7.45pm in St Guaire’s Parish Hall, Aghadowey

You are invited to join us at an Evening of Commemoration for the Men and Women of Blackhill and District who served in the Great War.

Here the stories of their lives and the part they played. The evening will feature music and dance and conclude with a WW1 themed supper.

Hampsey Harp School Christmas Concert

The Hampsey Harp School will be holding their Christmas concert on Tuesday 8th December 2015 at 7.30pm in Garvagh Community Building. With Christmas on the horizon, a craft fair in Garvagh will present an opportunity to see and buy some unique gifts.

The Garvagh Craft Fair organised by Garvagh and District Development Association and now in its 8th year will build on the success of previous years having over 25 stalls exhibiting many eye catching and creative crafts.

Visitors to the fair will be spoilt for choice for delightful presents such as felt, beaded, glass and resin jewellery, scented and decorative candles, Christmas crafts, floral art, ceramics, willow crafts, glass, handmade cards, photography, wood crafts, jams and chutneys, and various others.
